Watercolor & Mixed Media Paintings

I was introduced to watercolor as a high school art student. From then on, it became my media of choice, although I experimented with pastels, charcoal, and eventually acrylics. I have always been most attracted to buildings, urban scenes and landscapes as subject matter for my

watercolors. While the majority of my most recent work is mixed media abstracts, I still enjoy the challenge of representational painting and the pure transparency and softness that is unique to watercolor. The paintings in this gallery reflect that divergence of style that allows me to flex my artistic muscle.

All pieces are sold with acid-free mat and may be framed, as indicated; dimensions shown correspond to outside mat edge; each piece accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity; shipping charges apply; Visa/Mastercard accepted.

Collages

Most collage is a mixed-media form of art that utilizes various papers, paints, found materials and objects to construct a “painting”. The style of collage that I do involves applying acrylic paints, inks and gesso to art tissue paper and watercolor paper to create the “stained” papers that are the foundation for these pieces. In addition to these papers, I often use rice paper, textured and handmade paper, sheet music, book pages, and other papers. With a variety of papers as a background, I layer other materials such as gels, texture sprays, photo transfers, gold leaf, stamps, and found objects to complete the composition. Each piece often has a specific socio-cultural reference, often expressed with symbols, words, or images. I find that collage provides the opportunity for endless experimentation with color, texture, and composition. It allows me to construct my own contemporary interpretation of timeless themes and inject my personal point of view.

I approach each piece differently – sometimes with a specific idea or subject, other times as an experiment in texture, color, and design. Whatever the inspiration, I attempt to layer, both literally and figuratively, to provide richness and depth. I find that collage provides the opportunity for endless combinations of materials that allows me to construct my own contemporary interpretation of timeless themes and inject my personal style. I am consistently attracted to color and texture because I believe these elements reflect the richness of the fabric of life. Using a variety of colors and textures allows me to convey a greater sense of dimension, and thus depth of purpose. I find great joy in creating art and sharing it with others. I hope that my work provides a link between past, present and future, and allows each viewer to see something of him or herself in each piece.
